VR for the Future at Transitions Film Festival

Rat & Dragon producer has been asked to represent Sutu at this year’s Transitions Film Festival panel on the role Virtual Reality can play in the creation of a better future.

“It’s exciting to see both Future Dreaming and Heart of Darkness at Transitions this year,” explains director Saxon, “and the panel was sold out, well received and super interesting”. Representing alongside internationally renowned artist Christian Thompson, renegade 360 film maker Lester Francois and Terrain Earth’s Cristina Napoleone, Nicola discussed the learnings from the Future Dreaming project as well as how VR can specifically be useful in driving technological and social transformation.

RaD reconnects at Raindance

“Ever since my first little short film AutoDrive screened at Raindance, we have been part of this big maverick film maker family that London is home to in such a unique way,” explains Rat & Dragon producer Nicola, “and in many ways it is why RaD exists as it does today. After all, it was through a Raindance fuelled film set that I met director Saxon, and the rest is history.”

Last year Nicola had the honour to represent Sutu and the team behind Heart of Darkness at the 2019 Raindance Film Festival.

Not only were there many new creatives to build relationships with, amazing VR and film projects to see, but also lots of old friends and collaborators to see in person for the first time in many years, including Raindance founder Elliot Grove. Smiles all around.

Heart of Darkness selected for Raindance Film Festival

As if three major film festivals weren’t enough for Sutu in 2019, his VR experience Heart of Darkness was selected for competition in this year’s Raindance Film Festival.

“Raindance has a very special place in my heart”, explains producer Nicola who had the honour of representing Sutu’s VR piece based on Joseph Konrad’s classic novel. “I can’t wait to catch up with the festival team I have known for years, and see what other VR pieces are in store. The lineup so far looks incredibly exciting!”

MIFF welcomes SUTU and RaD

The Future Dreaming team, now on home turf, were excited to a couple of months ago experience Melbourne International Film Festival. Director Sutu, junior creators Ali, Maxi and Nelson as well as the Rat & Dragon team were able to attend despite busy schedules and new projects in full swing.

“Our highlights from this year’s MIFF include Abe Forsyth’s ‘Little Monsters’ (we’re a big fan of his film ‘Down Under‘) as well as Lulu Wang’s The Farewell“, producer Nicola explains. “It’s great to be able to share the festival experience with our Melbourne locals too.”
